Every time you flip on the TV, listen to the radio, or log on to the Internet, you are likely to be bombarded by advertisements from credit card companies. Each one of these companies is trying its best to just put you in a little more personal debt. It is big business, and it is all but ruining personal finance.

First You Must Escape the Debt Trap

It is true that you are able to survive without actually getting a credit card. This may seem rather unusual in the modern world given our addiction to debt, but it is true. A New York Times education blog titled "The Choice: Demystifying College Admissions and Aid" stated, "Students who graduated from college in 2008 with loans carried an average debt of $23,200 — an increase of nearly 25 percent, or $4,550, when compared with those who graduated just four years earlier." These statistics are alarming, and they show a general trend in the United States and around the world toward higher and higher debt loads. It is something like this that convinces people that living without a credit card will not work for them. However, that is not a true assumption. You just have to be willing to make dramatic changes to your life.
