Don’t Get an Authorized User Confused With a Joint Account Holder
Confusing an authorized user with a joint account holder is a common mistake. Joint account holders are considered by credit card companies to be joint owners of any debt that is charged on the card. This makes them legally liable for any unpaid balance.
A good indicator that someone is a joint account holder and not an authorized user is that he or she had to fill out an identical credit card application to the primary account holder and undergo a credit check. Authorized users are not required to fill out applications or have their credit score reviewed in order to have their names added to a credit card.
